A rare and refined technique, straw marquetry plays with light to create graphic patterns with changing reflections. An emblematic expertise in custom-made decorative furniture.
Rare, demanding and resolutely poetic, straw marquetry is an exceptional skill that dates back to the 17th century. It involves composing decorative motifs from carefully dyed, hand-flattened strands of rye straw, which are then marouflaged onto a support. This handcrafted process creates a play of light and texture impossible to reproduce any other way.
In art cabinetmaking, straw marquetry is used to create furniture fronts, decorative panels or subtle inlays. Each strand of straw is precisely oriented to optimize reflections and give life to geometric, abstract or organic compositions.
This material is considered noble for its rarity, its 100% natural appearance and its ability to transform a surface into a living tableau. Unlike wood veneers, straw has no grain; it’s its silky shine and ability to reflect light that give it its richness.
Our craftsman markers integrate straw into our bespoke creations. It’s a material that speaks softly, but intensely, giving each piece of furniture an extra soul that’s both graphic and sensory.
A unique creation always begins with an encounter.
